The annual Dubai Design Week attracts artists, architects and creatives from all over the world, but the city provides a rich source of inspiration throughout the year. Uncover design destinations that reveal Dubai’s dedication to breathtaking buildings and eye-catching art.
With its wind towers, ornate archways and twinkling lanterns, this iconic attraction invites visitors to step back in time and learn more about the region’s design traditions. And now, thanks to an immersive public art project dedicated to bringing Arabian culture to life, a number of Emirati artists have been tasked with creating a series of murals to span the walls and domes of the souk.
Equally attractive are the serene waterways of Madinat Jumeirah, which are reminiscent of an era when pearl divers, fishermen and traders would arrive by boat to sell their wares. Stay at the Jumeirah Al Qasr, our luxurious property that’s inspired by the summer residences of the Sheikhs, to immerse yourself in the area’s evocative design heritage.
The city’s modern steel-and-glass skyscrapers offer a compelling contrast to the region’s traditional mud-brick buildings. However, it’s still possible to see evidence of this historic architectural trend at Al Fahidi Fort, which was constructed in 1787 and is the oldest existing building in the city. While it once served as a border fortress, it is today home to Dubai Museum, which contains archeological artefacts and antiques that chart Dubai’s transition from small fishing village to cosmopolitan city.
Soak up the extravagance of the Ottoman Empire from a room or suite at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, on the West Crescent of Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, which is designed to transport guests to a lavish palace that’s accented with traditional flourishes.
