A scattering of paradise islands blessed with azure waters, pristine white sand coral reefs and spectacular sunsets, Maldives is the ultimate escape. It also offers endless outdoor activities and adventures for couples, from snorkelling to submarine tours or exploring the Malé fish market. Here are some of the most exhilarating moments you can enjoy during your stay at Jumeirah Olhahali Island.
Nestled on the picturesque North Malé Atoll— Jumeirah Olhahali Island is in total harmony with the natural environment and a blissful base from which to get started with an ocean adventure. You have a diving wonderland on their doorstep, with thriving marine life, colourful coral and crystal-clear waters awaiting. You can easily swim from the beach or go on a snorkelling excursion to deeper waters. Dive into a subterranean tapestry of jewel-hued butterflyfish, clownfish and angelfish alongside gentle whale and reef sharks. By sundown, you will be ready to indulge in a romantic meal under the stars at the hotel’s flagship restaurant Shimmers, enjoying Chef Roberto Rispoli’s exquisite Greek Mediterranean cuisine in a vibrant beach club setting.
One of the best ways to experience the Maldives in between aquatic adventures is visiting the bustling Malé fish market, located just west of Republic Square. A transporting experience and the epicentre of the country’s fishing industry, you can watch fishermen unloading an astonishing variety of fish from yellowfin tuna, fresh skipjack and red snappers to barracuda, all caught using the old-fashioned hook-and-pole method. Fish is sold from mid-morning to late afternoon.
Dating back to around 1656, the atmospheric Hukuru Miskiy mosque (also known as the "Old Friday Mosque”) is the country’s oldest mosque and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008. Built on the foundations of an earlier temple, its exterior is covered in coral stone and intricate carved inscriptions and patterns, inside discover beautiful wood carvings and lacquer work. You’ll also find a large 13th-century panel inside, commemorating the introduction of Islam to the Maldives.
Guests can take part in fitness sessions, practise daily yoga, go snorkelling, pedal boating, windsurfing, or kayaking. You can also dive into the sparkling infinity pool or play tennis on the on-site court. Children will be thrilled by the Kid’s Club which features a water splash and an outdoor cinema. After a day of activities, immerse yourself in the heavenly Talise Spa, featuring five over-water treatment rooms.
