From its sail-shaped signature to the mirage-like marvel of the saltwater infinity pool, Burj Al Arab is definitely a destination not scared to push architectural limits. Its stunning Terrace – so bespoke it was built offshore in Finland and transported to Dubai by sea – is already an example of ingenious design with its exciting fusion of beach, pool, restaurant and private cabana space that seamlessly stretches out 100m into the sea. Add to this a pop-up restaurant built entirely with mirrors, and we’re starting to think that SAL might just be its most cutting-edge concept of all.
Headed up by native Tuscan Chef Marco Garfagnini – a Michelin-starred master of Mediterranean cuisine – this exciting addition is set to be yet another architectural gem in the Jumeirah portfolio. Inspiring plenty of ‘gram-worthy feeds, SAL will be the first ever ‘mirror dining room’ in Dubai. Think striking and contemporary, but also cool and refined; just like its name, which translates to ‘salt’ in Spanish, it’s a restaurant that’s been conceived to pay homage to its surroundings.
Alongside an ode to one of the most sought-after ingredients around the world, it explains why the mirror restaurant will be popping up on the oceanfront pool terrace. Flirting with a subtle backdrop of gorgeous pool and ocean views, there’ll be plenty of unbeatable sunsets to add to the sea-focused flavours and beachside charm. Eclectic touches will pair expertly with a refreshingly simple attitude – come dressed in casual daywear for a laid-back summer lunch before upping the style stakes to an evening beach-chic for the dinner culinary experience.
SAL’s menu features brand new dishes inspired by the seafood delicacies of Europe’s Iberian Peninsula. Taste buds will be tantalised with plenty of Spanish and Portuguese flavours, and a curated wine list will pair perfectly with the delicacy of its natural ingredients.
Whether it’s the sumptuous wild crab or the prawns in a roasted tomato sauce, an exciting selection of classic starters are a great way to kick off a meal here. The freshest catches of the day will be complemented with a simple bake or grill in sea salt, but there’ll be a selection of signature dishes included in the menu’s mains as well – alongside a traditional sea bream Isolana and the sea salt-crusted seabass, look out for the succulent king crab with homemade trenette pasta. A dessert trolley finishes up the experience with crowd-pleasing favourites ranging from cherry pie to pavlova, and there’s even a butter-crust fruit tart of the day that you can take away with you when you leave. To compliment the meal, a dedicated wine menu highlights different varieties and their corresponding tasting notes.
All of this takes place against jaw-dropping sunsets and exceptional views over the cerulean waters of the Arabian Gulf, under the watchful gaze of Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.
